BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT UNDERGRATUATE PROGRAM

Candidates who achieve the required score in the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) organized by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and who apply for the program, foreign students who apply, as well as students transferring vertically, intra-institutionally, inter-institutionally, and through horizontal transfer with central placement scores are accepted into the Department's first-degree program. An average of 55 students are admitted to the Department's first-degree program annually through ÖSYM exams. Additionally, students from other universities with protocol agreements are accepted as temporary students, limited to a certain period, within the scope of the Farabi/Mevlana/Erasmus exchange programs.

The undergraduate program in the Biology Department is conducted in the first-degree (daytime) program.

The standard duration of the undergraduate program is eight semesters, and the maximum duration is fourteen semesters.

The language of instruction for the Biology Department's undergraduate program is 100% English. Newly registered students are required to take compulsory English preparatory class education offered by the university’s School of Foreign Languages. The normal duration of English preparatory education is two semesters, and the maximum duration is four semesters. Students who exceed the maximum period are not accepted into the department and are transferred to a similar program with 100% Turkish instruction by ÖSYM. Students who successfully complete the English preparatory class education within the specified period begin their undergraduate studies as first-semester students.

Students who meet the necessary conditions within the scope of the Farabi/Mevlana/Erasmus exchange programs can study at domestic and international universities with protocol agreements for a specific period.

To be eligible for graduation from the program, certain obligations must be fulfilled. These obligations include taking and successfully completing the required and elective courses, with a minimum of 30 ECTS credits in each semester of the program (*In curricula that include the Career Planning course, the total ECTS in the first semester is 32), accumulating a total of 240/242 ECTS over eight semesters, having no failing/absent/insufficient grades, and maintaining a GPA of 2.00 or above.

Graduates of the Department’s first-degree program are awarded a "Bachelor’s Degree in Biology". Students who complete the necessary courses and meet graduation requirements may graduate earlier. No title is awarded to students upon graduation.

Students enrolled in the program in 2019 and subsequent years continue their education according to the "2019 Bologna ECTS-Compatible Biology Department Curriculum". For these students, the maximum ECTS credit for each course is determined, and their grade point averages (GPA* – Cumulative GPA**) are calculated based on the ECTS credits of the course.
